    Default Chopping a 7.62x39 Barrel?

I should be getting papers back on a SLR107-UR in the near future and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for getting the barrel cut down? I've seen videos of people doing it themselves but I'm not sure I want to go that route. Would hate to end up with something that keyholes, especially since it'll be wearing a suppressor at times.

    Thanks!

You consider replacing it with an AMD barrel?
Or call one of the many AK smiths on line

Keyholing is usually referenced to the slr-104ur and the 5.45 round, and most members on the ak files forums dispel it as a myth unless your barrel is way out of spec to start. But I digress; I sent my 107ur and 104ur to Tim at Two Rivers Arms in Oklahoma. I had him do a little extra work but he did a great job. The turn around time was about 3 months as they are usually working on things, but we'll worth the wait.

You really, really really need to make sure your 'Smith understands the nuances of AK barrels, especially if you are planning on suppressing it. I have cut them back 2-3" only to discover that the bore is so non-concententic that suppressing it would be a very bad idea.

The dead air wolverine suppressor is supposed to help with that. The opening goes from just over 30 gauge to just over 40 gauge at the business end. I don't remember exactly, I'll see if I can find me notes tomorrow. I'll also let you know in a few months when form 4 trusts get to jan.

Thanks for the information, guys. Sounds like I might be better off taking the extra time to have this done right.

Yeah, there are a number of dedicated AK builders out there that have tons of experience dealing with out of center bores and suppressors.. The Arsenals aren't really known for this issue so much. You mostly hear about out of center bores on older surplus military rifles build on older tooling.

Trying to remember.. Don't the 107URs already have a 74 style threaded combo FSB/gasblock with just the extra barrel sticking out the end? If so many people have just cut the barrel of using the end of the gasblock combo as a guide and then have a smith put a crown on it and called it good.

Is this the pistol with the extra 2" of barrel with the faux supressor. I sbr'd a 106 pistol so I wouldn't have to cut the barrel.

You should consider replacing the bbl with a US mfg one from Green Mountain.

No, this is a rifle with a 16" barrel.

Been looking at replacement barrels the last couple of days. Not a ton out there. Shortest thing on Green Mountain's website is a 11.5". Kvar has a 8.25" for a 23mm trunnion but its a tad expensive ($230).

    Any other leads out there?
