    Didn't see this posted.

A 52-year-old Colorado Springs man appears to have been shot accidentally while he and his daughter were collecting spent shell casings Sunday off Gold Camp Road, the Teller County Sheriff's Office said.
Michael D. Fletcher was hit in the shoulder after bullets began striking the ground near him around 2:50 p.m. on Forest Service Road 379 and he and his daughter took cover behind their vehicle. He was taken to Penrose-St. Francis Hospital where he was recovering after undergoing surgery .
The Sheriff's Office said investigators believe Fletcher was struck by a stray bullet fired by a person or group shooting illegally in the area.
    No arrests have been announced.

Wasn't someone killed down there a couple years ago in a similar scenario?

Between fires and this kind of shit public lands are going to get closed down to shooting.

Some dude got hit and killed by a falling bullet while sitting around a campfire out at Rainbow Falls IIRC. It seemed a bit suspicious IMO but I never heard much more about it. The sheriff asked people who may have been in the area to turn in their guns for testing...you can guess how that went.

Torn here. Yea, I agree. But to a degree the cause of this asshattery is lack of areas that are safe to shoot at.

Obviously, BPTactical wasn't lumping our members in with the types who'd shoot carelessly, destroy trees in the National Forests, or leave behind piles of garbage, instead, referring to "we" in the generic pro-shooting sense.

In an anti-gunners mind there is no difference between those who'd be so disrespectful to others and our forests and us. It's up to folks like us, here, to help educate those who'd do the sort of things that'll get shooting on public lands banned for all of us. Even if that education comes through calling the sheriffs dept.

Most of the forest areas that were once open to shooting but are now closed that I am aware of were either because nearby home owners complained enough or because of encroachment by other public uses of the forest. Take the Buffalo Creek area for example. A whole bunch of that area was once open to shooting. Now hardly any of it is. Most of that is due to the amount of people using the ever expanding trail system to mountain bike and hike. There could be someone down range in damn near any direction. The NFS is quick to close off any area to shooting that may have some hiker downrange.

The more people using the forest for other recreation, the fewer areas to shoot. Trash, accidents or not. Shooting is on the bottom of the recreational use priority list unfortunately.

I know a few years ago someone posted on a facebook hiking group that someone with what they believed to be an AR-15 opened fire on some hikers/campers and pinned them down but no one was hurt in that incident. shooters were never found.
