Default Police Chiefs 3 yr old son shoots self w/ Dad's gun

I can't understand for the life of me how this continues to happen...but for it to be the police chief who left a firearm where a toddler can get their hands on it...just blows my mind.

    Senseless, tragic and completely preventable.

Wow...truly saddens me to see stuff like this happen. The article wasn't specific, but it appears as though his son lived (thank God). This is a very hard lesson that NO gun owner should ever have to experience. If my gun isn't on my hip, it's locked in my safe. Let's use this experience as a reminder of how fragile life is and how quickly it can be snatched out from under us. Firearm safety is paramount. Never leave it to chance.

...and if anyone's wondering how small kids manage to shoot themselves with such regularity, it's because ergonomically the way a handgun works for small hands is to put the thumbs on the trigger and wrap the fingers around the backstrap. And squeeze…
