    Default Saiga 308-1 conversion

I've wanted an AK platform 308 for a while, but the prices went kinda nuts after they stopped importing them...

Then I came across this: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/769661965
The lack of furniture is no big deal, that way I can pick what I want while still meeting 922(r) requirements.

Fixing the pistol grip hole won't be difficult, no different than body work in that part of the receiver- worst case a reinforcing plate can hold the pistol grip nut in place.

I'll see how accurate it is as a 21", it could always be cut down and barrel threaded if it's not.

If there's interest, I can post pics in here as I build it and test it.

I'd leave it at 21". My old one was smoking accurate, for a semi-auto AK action. The only down side were (at the time) mag options.

I saw where a company (Definative Arms?) made a converter to take SR25 mags... I've got one for a 5.56 AK, and a bunch of SR25 mags for my LR308... hmmm

ETA: that was for the Vepr... but leaves me wondering about mag conversions... $40+ per mag is nuts

other option is going to be csspecs mags

Converting the saiga .308 is a huge PIA. The plate which covers the trigger hole is welded and there is no front hole for the trigger guard screw

Great, then I'll have M1A/M-14 mags and no M1A to match them... I'll be forced to buy one!
