I'm not sure if I would've been more terrified being part of the invasion or having to defend against the invasion. Pretty sure the average German soldier knew by that time they were in deep, deep trouble.

I bet they felt pretty confident looking down on the beach from their vantage points with the MG's and heavy guns. And then the long green willy of Uncle Sam started getting frisky and they probably didn't feel so superior about their structural integrity of the Nazi tactical sphincter.

I took some time today to look at pictures of the Allied forces building up for Operation Overlord and the invasion itself, Operation Neptune.

That truly was the most impressive show of force ever recorded on film. I got goosebumps just looking at the pictures.

I can't imagine the Germans were feeling too confident once they saw the endless lines of ships and landing craft stretching back to the horizon as far as they could see in both directions. They had to have known that they were effed at that point.

Just saw this on a "Business Insider" clickbait article but it was pretty cool nonetheless:

    https://www.dvidshub.net/news/279397...turns-normandy

The MI Air National Guard's 107th Fighter Squadron flew an A-10 over Normandy Beach.

The A-10 was painted with the same kind of black-and-white "invasion stripes" that D-Day aircraft were painted with to avoid friendly-fire incidents:

For reference, P-47 Thunderbolt with "invasion stripes" also shown

If I'd been that A-10 pilot I'da been sportin' wood for about a week after that. How cool that would be.

Can you imagine what even just 2 A-10's could have done at the Normandy Invasion?

    No kidding.

It totally makes sense that they would use the A-10 Thunderbolt II as the P-47 Thunderbolt had been decades earlier.
