Wood gunstocks

Hello,Have a fair amount of milsurp rifles,was wondering since we live in a dry climate if I should do anything to prevent the stocks from cracking.Should I even be concerned?especially if the stocks are well covered in shellac(nagants,R/C k-98's ect.).Thanks for any input.

I use Leamon oil on my wood stocks I have a Mosin that has a poly coat on it and I just leave it alone, it was made in 46 so being that old and it still looks great. it must be doing something right

Keep your humidity as constant as possible.

If your stocks already have shellac, I don't see that you would have to do anything, nor do I believe that any protectant would get into the grain anyway.

For my Garand and M1A, I use BLO and pure tung oil, respectively. They already have several coats, and get a fresh one every now and then.
