    Default New toys

Was looking at getting a thread barrel for my 1998 ruger 10/22.

Ended up purchasing a new ruger precision rimfire for less than the cost of the barrel and new chassis. I like this gun a lot. 1st bolt action gun I've ever owned. The silencer lived up to the movie hype even more so than the 15/22 it was previously on. I could probably shoot at condo and no one would know.

Also took out the new AR10 6.5 build with a 308 muffler. Tried tuning the gas block, but could never get the bolt to not hold back following the instructions. 8 full turns, but a noticeable reduction in recoil. Only brought 1 box of ammo...

Also brought out a AR15 that had been shot once, and failed to eject. 14.5 inch YHM barrel. Got a new bolt from Bowers Tactical that they checked the head space on. This time, failed again. Fires, but brass stuck in barrel. Knocked it out with cleaning rod, repeated 3 times, same result. Swapped 2 other bolts from a friends ARs, same results. My bolt worked on both his ARs. The bolt cycles as it will try to load a new round into the left behind brass, and holds open when only one round was loaded. Suggestions?

Clean it really good. Clean the chamber.

swapping the bolts means extractor isn't the issue. I had a similar issue with my first AR. The fix ended up being a simple polishing of the chamber. I picked up some #0000 steel wool, and wrapped a little around the chamber brush. Chucked the cleaning rod into my cordless drill, and did about 20-30 seconds at low to mid speed. Then cleaned well to make sure there wasn't a debris left in there, and never had another issue.

    Found the problem.

I would check gas port size, the thing may be so over gassed that chamber pressure is still high when it trying to extract. .076 is about what it should be.
What weight buffer? If anything less than H2 bolt speed will be too high.

Is it the YHM brand you think is bad? This is the 4th barrel and 1st to have issues. 2nd 14.5 inch barrel. Insurance bought the same parts I had that were on the stolen, but not recovered upper. (Only would reimburse me if i replaced with identical) the one that was stolen worked with a standard weight buffer.

    The gas port is 0.076".

I tried polishing the chamber with a larger brass cleaning brush, but doubt it did much. Reassembled and will test this weekend.

It had a standard buffer weight. I'll bring an h2 and see if that works.
