Overall, probably the best possible outcome. Good situational awareness and preparation by the camper.

9news is reporting that the camper engaged the dirtbag with a long gun. No word on caliber nor design.

To me it seems odd that through normal conversation, whether in person or online, that stating you would defend yourself with a weapon when faced with a life or death situation would be damning at some point later in life if that situation actually developed for you.
If it is, then that is a perfect example of injustice.

Unless you are in Fremont County, where your chances of having to defend yourself from an aggressor dramatically increase. Your chances of encountering an escaped convict are also higher. You also also have a greater chance that you will not have access to 911 services due to no available cell service. It is just a geo-social economic fact.

Good guy usd not one but two AR’s to neutralize the dirtbag.
Why reload when you can just grab another AR?!?

I am traumatized that this "law abiding" gun owner used multiple AR-15 assault weapons in this supposedly "defensive" example of gun violence.
Instead, he should have offered the victim some soothing tea in his camper and used "Please Don't Hurt Me" app on his phone as an example of how enlightened members of the community respond to actions of the downtrodden.
