Now THAT would be badass! T'hell with towing planes and space shuttles and what not... I wanna see one of these semi trucks tear up the mountain.

It could be interesting since EVs are unaffected by elevation the same way ICE cars are and there's reduced drag at higher elevations so, theoretically, they would be MORE efficient on their way up instead of less like an ICE vehicle is between sea-level and higher elevations. The lower CoG due to the batteries being down low would help with body roll and what not too. Instant torque is always a plus in race applications too even though they tend to keep things spooled up pretty well on those hill climbs. That may be one instance where the silence would be even more odd though. Could you imagine one of those barreling up the mountain the way they do and all you hear is gravel being kicked up and a slight faint wine as it sails past?

I think it would be cool to see what one of those set up specifically for that race would do. I mean, if they're about proving what their vehicles can do against their ICE counterparts it only makes sense, right?

EVs have been making good showings on the Peak for the last couple of years, and in fact, this year the overall record was broken by an EV.

When I went a few years ago, watching the semi division was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

For legal reasons, that's a joke.

More like a 120dB blaring siren... Perhaps they already have a less annoying noisemaker- but the racing officials will not allow them to run "silent" for safety reasons

The car in the video above was run in Production Electric Vehicle class... not competing directly with any ICE vehicles. maybe in Open class they could, but I haven't been following PPIHC as much since I moved.

VW broke the all time record with a purpose-built EV this year.

    120dB siren? Blech!!

Well, that would ruin my Pikes Peak roadside romantic picnic plans.

I know this is the semi section but heard in a podcast about the new roadster. Now Elon Musk needs to really get with the program. Just because you call it a roadster does not make it one. A four person hardtop? WTF? Yeah this guy is a genius. I guess you get a targa top. But still not a roadster.

Seriously though, this car will be fantastic if it delivers. Sub 2 seconds for $250k And a ton of range.

I wonder if it came through I70 or from the south.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
