While I agree with your overall premise, you're stretching things with that list. "The Princess Bride", "Smokey and the Bandit", and "Tropic Thunder" are generally classified as comedies; "Lord of the Rings" is a fantasy epic; "Fifth Element" and "Star Wars" are generally (wrongly) classified as science-fiction, etc. A movie isn't an "action" movie just because it has action in it -- most good movies will have some kind of action in them. IME, "action" movies are classified as such when that's the main (or only) draw. While Ahnald had some good one-liners in "Commando", let's face it, none of us went to it for the laughs, they were just a bonus. The first "Dirty Harry" movie was actually more of a social commentary on the then-sad state of societal values and how it impacted the police mission to "protect and serve" in San Francisco in the late 60s/early 70s -- there really wasn't a lot of action in it. OTOH, when I throw a movie with Jason Stethem, Chuck Norris, Ahnald, etc. in the player, you KNOW I'm looking for some explosions, weaponry, and fisticuffs with some laugh lines thrown in for good measure.

One movie I find harder to classify is "Running Scared". Was it a cop action movie with a LOT of typically great Billy Crystal lines thrown in or was it a comedy with a couple action sequences thrown in? Either way, I don't care but I sure wish they'd made more Billy Crystal/Gregory Hines duo films. Those two were gold together.

Another movie I can't believe they tried to 'remake'.
