Just cuz I'm bored right now and for no other reason, a Muslim fighting a Jihad is called a Mujahideen, Arabic for Holy Warrior. There are various spellings for Arabic words and names using the english alphabet, so you will see a variety of spellings for the same thing. It's problematic to convert from a non-english alphablet to english regardless of the language. It's so bad for the various Chinese dialects and caligraphies that most DoD and DoS agencies use a numberic representation for names.
Nobody really knows what his motive was. Cover to kill his Ex, writings while in prison before trial rambled on about Jihad, he made comments about kidnapping kids(?), bla bla bla... He was a sociopath.

I was going to ask the same as DOC, because I remember the shootings, but didn't post on boards like this at the time, so I never heard anyone blaming Islam for what he did. Thanks for the insight Friday. Did he actually kill his ex-wife?

No. This was one of the angles the investigators took in the investigation and they tried to get it into court, but the judge wouldn't allow it as they had no proof of it. His ex was the one that got this idea going from her interview with the cops. She cut him off from his kids.
