I've had 2 Bushmasters and realy didn't like them. I didn't give them that much of a chance though. I'm going to take them all and shoot them and see what I think. Thanks for the info.

Here we go with the old "ar vs.ak" shit.
An sks can be quite accurate. Check out my and Bryans prairie dog pics in the hunting section.
Anyways, environment should choose your weapon.
Those who think they will be in the city and taking 600 yard shots are few-realistically, an sks would be better than an ar all the way around. Accuracy is acceptable to 100 yards and most likely you would never be shooting more than that in an urban or even mountaion enviorment. If you were out in the flatlands a .308 of course.
An sks has some distinct advantages at 100 yards, namely power. Especially if you were to be shooting at cover. And an sks will shoot anyone center mass just as well as any gun. I would prefer the power of the 7.62 anyday.
I'll side with SSChameleon and Tristan: Go with the SKS. It's a more robust SHTF type rifle than the Mini.
and if you run out of ammo you can beat someone to death with the SKS. Nice, solid stock.
I have hardly done anything beyond hold a mini, but I have owned a couple SKSs. I really liked them, in terms of function. Their safety is idiot proof and wicked fast, and I had all kinds of trouble breaking them and I was able to break pigeons at 100 yards, which should be more than A-OK for a SHTF/truck gun.
That said, I sold them and bought a Garand.
one thought on the mini 14, it sure seems to be a fine rifle, but I can't think of any advantages it has over an SKS except it being magazine feed.
^^ Yeah but, You have to go through 20-30 mags to find one that works for the mini..
That bit of sarcasm out of the way,, At one time I owned both.. now I just have the SKS.. Once I got it sighted in, it has held the zero for about 8 years now.. The mini, seemed like everytime I took it out, I had to re-zero.. And once the barrel warmed up,,, HA!
Just my personal experiance with the mini.. To this day I really haven't figured out a use for it,, it's even too light to use as a door stop..
Sarcasm, Learn it, Know it, Live it....
Spleify 7-27-12Marlin is the end all be all of everything COAR-15...
Great!
Until this thread I was a-okay with my Mini...I've had it since 1983 and for the longest time was the only .223 gun I had.
NOW, however, you've got me thinking of selling it and using the $$ to either fund an AR build or pick up a handgun.
