Not surprised, although I agree that it wasn't always this way.
Personal experience has taught me that the Dim base wants gun control because "it'll save the chilluns"...
They have been indoctrinated through years of media bias.... and now they're getting stronger in their resolve because "those knuckle-dragging conservative retards want guns, so let's take them away"

I think gun control is a distantly removed issue for most democrats (and probably a lot of conservatives). Of the liberals I know, socialized medicine is top, hatred of Trump is next (Get Him!), then probably pay equity and/or making college "free" and forgiveness of student loans. Very few own firearms, or know people who do, with me being the exception, and it's out of sight, out of mind.
I believe this is a case of them doing what the party says to do. Scary none the less.
