Beware - The Rustic Flag Company
Beware of The Rustic Flag Company. Bit of a long post below, but I want the interwebs to know how much this company sucks.
I placed an order with The Rustic Flag Company for a large wooden American flag on May 26th. The item's description said it was handmade, 10 weeks to ship. Cool no problem. These flags look AMAZING. Plus, they said they were veteran owned and employed veterans.
They charged up-front. It was a big 60% off sale so I paid a little over $100.
A month later I received an email update saying I was 4 weeks into my wait and that they "have 40 veterans, Reserves members, and patriots that work diligently to craft these one of a kind pieces of heritage for you and your family to enjoy for a lifetime. Our team takes great pride in each flag they build. You can rest assured the flag you receive will be of incomparable quality. We appreciate your patience with us during our meticulous process."
I thought awesome, these guys are top notch.
2 weeks later I get another email update. They said they were 4 weeks behind schedule because they got so many orders at the same time as mine and they would be contacting me again at week 10. Once again I thought, cool, these guys are working hard and keeping me updated. I can wait.
Then sure enough, I got another email right at week 10. This time they said they were behind and can't give an estimate of time to ship. But not to worry, great things take time. I think well, OK, at least they are honest, I can wait. Boy was I wrong.
At week 14 I got an email that said I was 12 weeks into my wait. I thought, hold on, now these guys are misrepresenting shit in their emails. So I start doing some digging. The lead times posted on their website had finally been revised from the earlier promised 10 weeks, but now said 12-14 weeks. Hell, I'm past that when I got this email. So I checked Facebook. They had their reviews disabled and were busy deleting negative comments. Then I checked BBB. Whoa boy, these guys have a LONG, LOOOOONG history of doing the exact same shit they are currently doing to me. Hundreds of bad reviews. Many of the complaints were from people that ordered months before me saying they were waiting 20+ weeks for their orders. That proves the company had straight up lied when they described the lead time as 10 weeks when I ordered. And many complaints the company had responded to with an argumentative tone. Some of the company's responses said they had refunded only for the customer to comment a week later that they hadn't received a refund. At about the same time I get a Facebook ad and these guys were running a 60% off sale again!!!! Months behind in production and they are loading the backorders yet again.
On Oct 1st (18 weeks since my order) I sent them an email asking for an update. No response. 2 weeks later I emailed again. Nothing. That same day I got on Facebook again to see if other people are having issues too. They had changed the name of the company on Facebook! They changed to RFC Tactical Sports. Their post explained the name change saying they sold their FB following to raise funds. I don't even know what that means, but this company had at LEAST 20 weeks of paid for backorder CASH and they still needed to raise money?? WTF!?! Their post also explained that they shutdown the phones and email to get more people making flags. They apologized for the communication problems the past "WEEK" (It's been a lot longer than that) and then they went into a bunch of bullshit saying what good moral people they are and that they don't want to hurt anyone and they most certainly aren't giving up. Yeah, Bullshit.
The owner was busy responding to comments, explaining the problems. Basically they didn't have enough employees but they also didn't have money to hire more. But they would be catching up on emails and had 6,000 to go through. So on Oct 19th I sent yet another email asking what's up. Nothing. A few days later the owner posted in a comment that they were down to only 1,000 emails left to answer. Here we are on Nov 3rd and I still haven't received an email from them, they aren't answering their phones and they aren't answering FB messages. But they still appear to have the time to delete negative comments. And the BBB complaints continue to rack up from people who ordered as far back as March. The few BBB complaints that had been responded to said things like "you've been refunded" or "your flag shipped today" only for some of those customers to respond to say that they never got the refund or their flags. And now they have ordering shut down on their website. I hope that's good news in order to give them time to catch up like the should have done months ago, but I'm expecting isn't. I think their ponzi scheme is finally coming to an end and they are out of money.
The owner of The Rustic Flag Company is a guy by the name of Justin Scott and they now call it RFC Tactical Sports on Facebook. I would suggest that if they ever open up for orders again that you avoid them like the plague. This company is 100% full of BS. Don't buy shit from them.
