A days worth of research has revealed that there is no Ammo that will be stopped by an interior wall that is considered lethal. Even Glaser Safety Slugs penetrate 3-4 walls (8 layers of drywall). Rubber bullets would be safe, and have the potential to be lethal, but that course seems as dangerous to the overall safety of the family as just using proper defensive Ammo.

I'm probably going to have to rely on having the bad guy stop the bullets. Shot placement and situational awareness are going to have to be good enough.
The only thing rubber bullets do is open you up to a lawsuit. A few deterrents

3-4" screws replacing the ones currently in the deadbolt and doorknob strike plate.

Outside lights Always on at night. We use photoelectric units to turn them off as daylight approaches. On with dusk, this way no one forgets to turn on or off.

Solar powered motion sensor lights around the property, usually on out buildings and or areas that are darkest where one could walk. The best ones we've found so far are at costco.

Gates at entrance areas if property fenced

A big one a lot of people may not have. Storm/screen doors (good ones) that provide a primary barrier one has to access before attempting to enter the home.

Bushes outside main level areas that prevent one from climbing in, yet ability to escape if a fire happened.

ALSO... CLOSE those @#$%^&* garage doors! (that's for everyone who leaves them open) not necessarily you.

This one is more a personal opinion than not.

Shit can those sliding glass doors. It's the easiest access point to ones home. IF you insist keeping them, obstacles outside that area which one would have to navigate while making noise to enter the home. This is also an area where one would have not only a dedicated light on at night. But a solar motion sensor light that would kick on providing more illumination.

I don't play a lawyer or pretend to be one. However i can tell without a doubt tell you how to minimize an opponents access to your home.
