When I was a kid we used to take a couple trips to the Sidney Nebraska store every year. Cabelas used to have some pretty nice name brand euipment, but that was 25 years ago. I have certainly notcied their quality name brand stuff isn't what it used to be. These days we still prefer Sportsmans Warehouse to any of the others since their prices are usually better than most of the other competition. Basspro Shops and Gander Mountain used to be pretty decent as well, but they've all gone down hill.

Started going in the early 70's when retail was on the ground floor and mail order and catalog were the 2nd and 3rd floors. Crowded aisles, but outdoor gear I never saw for sale anywhere else.
Also would stop at the Green Lantern for a plate-flopper steak (24 hours/day catering to the railroad workers - they threw the key away when they opened)

When a buyout happens changes take place almost never for the better.

Bass Pro probably bought Cabela’s using a loan, and Cabela’s is the collateral for the loan.

I haven’t been to Cabelas since the buyout. Used to be a fan but can’t stand the new owners.

I’m still shocked some of you are so passionate about this. Even long before the M&A, I thought they were basically the same thing with very little preference.

I pretty much stopped buying from Cabela's regularly long before the Bass Pro buyout. Seems the quality of many of their products went down while prices went up.

I have bought two high-end pair of Leupold binos from them in the last year. Other than that I can't remember the last time I ordered anything from them.

Currently, I have about $300+ in Cabelas points. Perhaps should use them before the firm goes “belly up”. They did recently switch their club cards from Visa to Master Charge.

You might want to check if you still have your points, I lost all of mine when the switch happened.
