G19 Mag sticks...

Hello Folks.

Recently put a Magwell on Glock 19. Before the magwell, I depress mag release and the mag falls clean (both Glock factory, new and old, metal lined and plastic lined, 10 & 15 rnd.) Now, after install, I depress release and mag sticks. Need some help. I like free falling mags as it aids speed of reload, etc.

I've looked at base of Magwell thinking it may need to be filed, no-go.
I've actually looked at mag lines/catch to see if something might be catching, no-go.
Tried a little lube on the outside of mags, no-go.

I really like the concept of the magwell and would like to find a way to keep the free fall mags. BUT, the free fall mag is more important to me than the magwell so if I can't get this solved, off comes the magwell and into the bin of parts. So, any ideas?

The mag well is just something that sticks onto the very end of the gun right? Have you tried taking the magwell off, and sticking mags through it while it is off the gun to see where it might be binding up?

What kind of magwell? How does it attach to the gun? Are you using mag extensions? If so, what kind.

It is the T.H.E. Magwell found at Glockworld. It sits on the outside of the frame and attaches via a brass plug that fits in the hole of the backstrap. The plug is secured via a hex nut through the "lanyard" hole on the backstrap. Negative on the mag extensions. However, I do run a cross of factory 10 and 15 rnd loads. Never had problems before installing the Magwell... come to think of it, I did have to beat in the plug a little to get the holes lined up... maybe there is some stretching of the frame due to the plug which is causing friction which causes the mag not to drop free... I'll have to play with that. In the meantime, any other scenarios? And how am I going to get that plug out too...

The brass plug is probably way too big. If I remember right, the plug was designed for the G17/22 etc frame. Take the magwell off and the plug out. File material off of the flat side of the plug until you can install it without having to force it into place. Try to take then MINIMUM amount of material off necessary to install the magwell and not have pressure against the mag.

Once you get close to the right dimentions, install and try the mag, remove everything, take a tiny more material, reinstall, try the mag, remove everything and take a tiny more bit of material. Once you can get an EMPTY mag to drop free, stop. You are there.

Taking too much material off the plug can result in the magwell being loose when installed, but it's a fine line. When you put the plug in and then screw the well to it, it causes a some pinching between the parts. I suspect if you take the slide off and look down the in between the grip and mag (flashlight) with the magwell installed and not installed you will see where the plug is causing pressure.

Rgr... thank you for making me feel like an idiot! It is deserved...

I just went back to the source of where I bought it and re-read everything there. On the statement it says it will fit Glock 9mm and in parentithis is has (G19/17) etc. Then in small letters underneath the actual pic it states "Will not fit in compact/sub models."... I was an idiot and didn't see that first time around..

So now the question is, easiest/most effcient way to get that plug out? (I did have to beat it in a little). I don't have a glock take down tool nor the knowledge on how to reassemble everything once it's cleared.

Remove the magwell and reinstall the magwell screws into the base of the slug (not all the way). use the screws to see if you can unwedge the slug. I would try a screw driver under the lip of the screw and carefully try to pry the slug up. I would put a cloth between the screwdriver shaft and the plastic of the bottom of the receiver. You can also see if you can get some movement using a brass punch into the hole in the slug where the rear retaining screw goes.

There is no way to punch it out from the top of the receiver without popping a hole in the plastic between the area the slug resides in and the area the trigger mechanism resides in.

Brass is like gold, a self lubricating metal. Against the plastic, I doubt it's jammed in there too hard.

You might have to reform the whole top of the slug to fit since you are using it in a 19 instead of a 17, but it shouldn't be too tough. Just take your time and resist the urge to break out the dremel.
