The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.

Not me...simply because it's irrelevant. What matters here is good people lost their lives in a tragic incident. May God be with their families and loved ones in their time of grief.

First responder losses are always terrible. But this one sounds especially awful.
RIP, and may the families and friends of those lost in this accident find peace.

I hope this link works. It is the CSP report of what happened. Apparently the car that hit Matt was being driven by a drunk/drugged driver traveling at 96 mph in a 45 mph zone that came into his lane.

So my original curiosity is justified, someone was being a colossal irresponsible asshole. (DUI parent) It's the stories like this one that scare me more than dealing with obvious dirt bags.
