Default Had a funny failure today.

So, made to the range for the first time in 2019. Hopefully I?ll get another trip or two in before 2020.

Anyhow, I was playing around with an 18? barreled 12ga and had some weird, Roman candle type squib load.

I was about 50 rounds into playing around with several different types of ammunition and everything was going well. I had a few straggler rounds of Federal #4 buckshot that I?ve had laying around for several years. Can?t remember exactly how many years several is. Could be 10 or 15. Maybe 20 or more. Lol. Anyhow....

Squeezed off the first one. Boom! Squeezed off the next one. Pfft!

It seriously sounded and looked like a Roman candle. Made a lazy little poof noise, something (hopefully shot and the wad) popped out of the barrel and traveled maybe ten feet (about half way to my target) being chased by a tiny little red ball of fire that bounced and rolled underneath the target before disappearing.

    It was funny. Sort of.

Nice description. I can see it.

More than once I've had bitty store bought model rocket motors do something similar.

Yeah. Fortunately for me I wouldn?t use shells that are maybe 20 years old to defend myself and my family. Not to say it couldn?t happen with factory fresh ammunition but I bet it?s way less likely.

Well, I better burn up all the old Federal shotgun shells that I have. Most, if not all the Federal that I have, double “O”,triple”O” slugs and #4buck is that old or older.
