Iwo Jima

On this day in 1945 the US Marines landed on the Japanese held island of Iwo Jima to gain a forward base to hasten the defeat of the Japanese Empire and their efforts to force fascism on the world in concert with their Nazi allies. Thanks to the mobilization of the entire United States of America, this effort was successful and Japan was eventually defeated.
