Default Douglas County opposed to Red Flag?

Looks like there will be a resolution discussed at the Tuesday March 12 county comissioners meeting that the commissioners will fund the enforcement of state laws that support the US Constitution including the rights to due process, bear arms and self defense. Following in the footsteps of Weld County? If I was a resident I'd go, alas I live in the continually declining county of Arapahoe.

Hope they pass it. DC is slipping away to the progressives . . . but would be nice to give them the finger wherever possible and fight them every step.

Sheriff Tony Spurlock is one of the pushers of this bill too. Cause feels. What a traitor to the Constitution.

You are correct. He is one that is pushing it.

Was the shooter someone known to the SO and local police? Did they have ample opportunity to properly ask the courts for a mental health evaluation? What role did the actions of the LE on site have in the death of the deputy. If there was an honest non-LE biased investigation of how/why the death of a deputy occurred, the management of the SO might not like the outcome.

My opinion is he is trying to hide blame/guilt for what they knew they could have done within the current legal frame work by supporting this law.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Spurlock term limited? If so it only adds to his not giving a crap what citizens want.

    Yes, yes, and yes.

We had this out on the other thread, but red flag will actually make this perception issue worse for LE because it doesn't remove the dangerous individual, only orders the confiscation of weapons that person is known to have at the time the order is issued. So LE will be going on the record knowing the person is dangerous and then failing the community should anything happen.

As much as the 1968 GCA sucks, the involuntary confinement standard makes a lot of sense. If someone is so dangerous that his rights must be taken from him, then he really doesn't belong in a free society.

The resolution, at least the copy I saw, also states that basically we already have the appropriate laws on the books to prevent problems and supports the 2nd Amendment.

And if the ones pushing for Red Flag laws don't understand this, then it's not about public safety. It's about enabling gun confiscation.

Spurlock has definitely gone off the feels cliff.

He openly supports not only the concealed carry policies former Sheriff Weaver supported, but supported Average Joe NFA prior to 41F, something that Weaver didn't.

The killing of one of his deputies has certainly clouded his judgement.

His term is up in 2023.

It will be interesting to see what transpires when a County Sheriff and the County Commissioners are at odds over basic fundamental Constitutional Rights.
