    Default Armslist fun

Anyone else get any responses from a d.turner2145@yahoo.com
You guys think this was a sting, gun grabber group or just a really dumb person?

Have a desert eagle 357 listed at a reasonable price (950) and got an email reply asking if I could meet tonight
I replied back I could but didn’t know a ffl still open,
to which he replied that this was his first time doing something like this,
to which I responded by explaining the ppt/ffl/for our safety bs
he then responds that he’s on probabtion so probably won?t pass a bc

unfortunately i sent my phone number on one of the earlier emails so we’ll see what happens.

I doubt it was from the same email address but I've had similar interactions in the past. I even had someone ask me if I'd sell a suppressor to them "without a license", I wasn't selling nor had I mentioned anything about a suppressor. I'd just ignore them.

I think I've told this story before, but way back in about 2001 - 2002, when I was living in Laramie, I had a S&W 4516 up for sale on Gunbroker.

Got a winning bid and the buyer contacted me. I told him to send me a copy of his FFL, signed in contrasting color ink, and the address of the FFL to ship it to.

He responded that he didn't want to go through an FFL, that I could just put the gun in an unmarked brown box and send it to him through USPS mail. He said he did it all the time and never had any problems.

When I mentioned that I sent all my guns to an FFL and used UPS, he insisted that it was "legal" to mail guns through the USPS and even offered me extra $$ to not go through an FFL.

I reported him to GB and relisted the gun. I'm about 99% certain he was a Postal inspector trying to do a "sting."

I feel like if this type of "sting" were common we'd read about it once in a while in the news. I've searched a bit and can't really find much that I'd consider reliable.

This article seems to be what we're talking about only in reverse, agents trying to sell firearms not buy them.

I just spent a few minutes reading through some articles and search results. I see the VT sting come up a few times and lots of blog type posts that are pretty questionable. I'm actually pretty sure this type of sting must happen pretty often, want to read more about them.

This is pretty interesting. In November 2017 the GAO performed a study about how easy it was to purchase firearms illegally online. While their sample size is pretty small they found that on what they call the "surface web" they got told to kick rocks 100% of the time. When trying to illegally purchase a firearm on the "Dark Web" they were only able to make a total of 2 illegal firearms purchases.

Maybe I have a mean streak, but as long as my email didn't point right back at me, I'd be tempted to tell them HELL YES and give a meeting place about four hours away.

Make up some excuse why I wasn't there, make another meeting place two hours away.

Make up an excuse why I couldn't be there, etc.
