Our power went out about 1030 yesterday. I left the shop around 1300, got home about 1430. Zero visibility the last 4ish miles, literally could not dee beyond the hood of my truck. About 1530 my sister calls from Lutheran and tells me my dad is headed back to surgery. Absolutely no way I can get back across town. Surgery goes well, thankfully.Power comes back on about 1700. I got up at 0330 this morning to start shoveling. Drifts to about 4 ft deep in the driveway. Once out of the neighborhood, put the truck back in 2wd and 55-65 across town. I'm guessing we had about 8-10 inches of snow, but the drifts were pretty amazing.

Thanks for the pictures. They make me a bit nostalgic for when I was young & lived in Wyoming. That's what my driveway & yard would look like near every time it snowed! Well almost, less the Raptor.

We got very little accumulation in terms of snow, but the wind was nuts. Ripped two rows of siding off, which I will grit my teeth and tack back on when it warms up a bit. I thought it was crazy that they cancelled school this morning, since we got next to nothing in terms of snow. Then I went out to clear off the driveway. What little snow we got had melted and re-froze overnight, turning the driveway and sidewalks into solid sheets of 1" thick ice. The whole neighborhood is like an ice rink. I had to break out the heavy duty ice scraper to chip it off my steps. Watched the neighbors attempt to shovel for about 30 seconds, then quit. Also watched folks unable to get traction on their nearly flat driveways. My truck tires appear to be frozen into about six inches of ice at the curb line, and there really isn't any place I need to be today, so I plan to let nature melt it out for me. Does make me realize that if I needed to go anywhere this morning, I would have needed chains or cables to get out of the secondary streets. I know next to nothing about either, so if anybody has some recommendations on which ones are good, I'd be glad to take them.

I managed to scrape the ice off a good chunk of the drive way this AM. I am thinking that I might wait a bit to let the sun work on the secondary roads around here.
I guess getting 'snowed' in is one way to spend some vacation time...better than most.

with the sun light hitting the drive way now - it is starting to do a good job melting off.

My only advice is absolutely practice putting them on and taking them off before you have to use them while sitting in 6" of snow on the side of the road. Keep a small shovel in the car as well. I was getting a guy unstuck yesterday, and he just immediately got stuck again. In the end we just shoveled enough snow out of the way for him to get right.

The visibility yesterday was horrible. Wind stopped around 8pm and the sky cleared. Everything started to ice after that. 3-4' drifts all over the place on unplowed roads. Its gonna take a good 24 hours to clear everybody off Woodman and 24 out here. Did you see that national weather service had confirmed 97 mph wind gusts! That nuts.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Yep, my wife told me about the 97mph winds. She also sold me a picture of a greenhouse complex out here somewhere that was destroyed. Not sure what they were growing....

Power is still out, latest estimate from Xcel is 11:30pm March 15th... so almost another 36 hours, and we don't even live in the boonies.

Been stalling for couple hours hoping wind would die down a little more. 40mph wind is better than 60 but still sucks to be on tractor in it.
