Then came the Beach Boys, Astronauts, The Ventures, the Surfaris, and the list goes on.
He pioneered a sound and the guitars and amplifiers to play them.
He paid the price,

RIP, what was amazing to me is that as a little kid I learned, thanks to my older brother, that DD played left handed without restringing the guitar, truly mind blowing. Hendrix and a few others followed. Regardless amazing talent.
I got to see him a few years ago at The Bluebird theater. It was an incredible show and he explained why he was still playing and touring, then gave the crowd the most sincere “thank you”.
