Default Washington Sheriff Deputy killed by gunfire

    EOW 3-19-19

Deputy Sheriff Ryan Thompson was shot and killed in the city of Kittitas following a vehicle pursuit at approximately 7:45 pm.

He had responded to a traffic complaint involving a road rage incident and attempted to stop the involved vehicle. The driver fled along I-90 and exited the interstate into Kittitas where a city officer joined the pursuit. The vehicle came to a stop in the area of North Pierce Street and 6th Avenue. The driver opened fire on the officers, fatally wounding Deputy Thompson and seriously wounding the Kittitas officer.

The subject was shot and killed in the ensuing shootout.

Deputy Thompson is survived by his wife and three children.

You know that I appreciate that you make these posts, so please understand where I'm coming from with my question.

Are you as tired of having to make these posts as I am of having to read them? I seldom comment because I have no words that would be adequate. It seems it's a very rare week when you're not having to make another of these threads. When will the insanity end?

My son-in-law is awaiting his chance to attend the Academy in Colorado Springs (likely this summer) with the intent to hire onto CSPD upon his graduation. While I'm proud of his choice, I'm also fearful of all of the violence towards the law enforcement community these days. God bless all who choose the life in public safety.

Rest peacefully Deputy Thompson; your watch has ended.

The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.

Yes, I hate posting these, which is often multiple times a week. And generally no words have to be spoken.
