Default Texas Deputy killed by gunfire

    EOW: 03-25-19

Deputy Sheriff Peter Herrera died of injuries sustained when he was shot after pulling over a vehicle in San Elizario.

Deputy Herrera stopped a vehicle near the corner of Chicken Ranch Road and Socorro Road. He approached the car and asked the driver to step out. The driver fired at least 12 shots while seated in the vehicle, striking Deputy Herrera multiple times. He and a vehicle passenger then fled the scene on foot. They were apprehended nearby by responding officers.

A civilian and responding Deputies attended to Deputy Herrera. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he died days later from his wounds.

The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.
