Lightbulb CRC / Byers USPSA Practical Rifle Match

This coming Saturday, August 6, the Colorado Rifle Club in Byers will be hosting its monthly Practical Rifle Match. This is a new addition to the Rocky Mountain region shooting sports. It is an Action Rifle match that combines the speed of USPSA pistol matches with Precision Rifle shooting using semi-automatic rifles and carbines on dynamic stages with targets at distances ranging from 5 to 200 yards. As such, movement, accuracy, and speed will be stressed, all while maintaining the utmost level of safety.

All semi-automatic rifles are welcome but there will be ammunition restrictions in place. In order to avoid damaging the club’s steel plates, steel-core, bi-metal or any other type of “penetrator” ammunition is strictly prohibited. If you try to sneak some in and, as a result, you damage or puncture any steel targets, you will be expected to pay for the replacement of said steel targets. DON’T BE THAT GUY/GAL!!!!

The entry fee is $20 and the approximate round count will be 135 to 150 rounds (though we encourage you to bring 200 rounds of ammunition; just in case…)

Setup starts at 7:00am on berms 7 through 13 of the CRC East Range. The match itself starts at 9:00am. Remember that this is a Volunteer Sport and, as such, your help is greatly appreciated. Please show up early to help with the setup and be ready to start the shooting fun at 9am.

A month has gone by and that means it's time to dust off the rifle and join us at the range this coming Saturday, September 3 to send some lead down range.

One big difference worth noting is that, instead of the match starting at 10, we will begin at 9:00am. By the way, the setup still starts at 7:30am.

Show up early and help with the setup and we knock off 25% off of your match fee.

I hope you can join us at the rage this coming Saturday. Bring your rifle, plenty of ammo and a desire to have safe fun. We'll provide the cardboard, you provide your own lead! See you bright and early on Saturday.

Got any pictures? What kind of targets?
I'll stop buying black rifles when my wife stops buying black shoes.

I don't have any pictures but here is a link to a YouTube video posted by one of the participants of this past weekend's match: https://youtu.be/80eFqv8MerY

We are shooting at a combination of full-size USPSA targets and steel plates ranging from 12" to 16" at varying distances out to 200 yards. The vast majority of targets are to be engaged at 15 to 50 yard with lots of "hard-cover" that forces shooters to aim.

One major difference from 3-Gun matches is that our match is scored using the Comstock formula where shooters need to find a balance between accuracy and speed. Sacrifice either one and your points will suffer.

Ugh. Another Saturday match I can't, but want, to shoot.

Someone tell Chris his music choice is something a Japanese girl would have chose, and his AR is cycling too fast. Other than that, total props for doing that with irons. That's ballsy.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

I cannot convince Chris to put any sort of optic on that rifle but, he keeps proving to me that "he don't need no stinking optic."

I think the cycling issue was caused by burnt out gas rings but am not sure.

Oh, I wasn't making fun of your comment. Far from it. Its just a three hour drive one way for me, as we were discussing the other day.
