    Default Gold Panning

My 10-year-old son wants to try gold panning. I've ordered him a pan, and a cheap bag of pay-dirt so we can practice.

When we're ready, where is a good place to take him? I'm not trying to get rich - I just want to spend some quality time with my kid, get him off the screen and let him find something he can bring home and show his mother and sister.

I know a guy that has a business where you can pay to pan for gold.

Probably not what you?re looking for but if it is shoot me a message.

Clear creek in Golden. Google on where on the river you can pan. Be cautious. You do NOT want to pan where you are not allowed or mistakenly pan on a claim.

Clear Creek is open to panning, (as long as you are on public property) there is actually a park made for it where 58 and I70 meet called Arapahoe Bar Gold Panning Park.

Boulder Creek is closed to panning

Clear Creek in Idaho Springs will show some color. Creek that runs along 119 and next to Blackhawk and some good color. Then there is Cache Creek near Granite (Twin Lakes) that is open soon.

There is a YouTube video of a guy panning gold from the dirt that collects on the up hill side of the culverts running under I-70 going into the mountains.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

Prior to runoff, Clear Creek up the canyon is definitely fun. The park at 32nd and I 70Is an excellent spot to take a kid

If you want to camp overnight, I have a twenty acre claim on the Arkansas river near Texas Creek. You will have to have a gold pan to camp there though. Not much gold there though as most the color is deep under the river. I haven't explored the bench placer north of the railroad tracks at all. PM me if you want to use it this summer.
