Default Withdrawal from UN Arms Treaty

What does this mean for the average gun owner?

Was this treaty keeping certain arms from being imported?

“Under my administration we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone, we will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom and that is why my administration will never ratify the U.N. trade treaty,” Trump told an audience at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting in Indianapolis.
    Yeah, just domestic bureaucrats.

As far as I know it's not yet in effect. At any rate, in reality it probably won't have much effect on gun owners. The NRA argued that trade with the US by other countries could be affected if the US doesn't abide by certain policies in the treaty. Then again, the NRA also said bump-stock laws should be reviewed and I think that was a code to Trump to go ahead and ban them with NRA approval. I think this announcement is really just overblown pandering to gun people.

    So, who knows.

Nothing.. Obama signed on to it but Congress never ratified it so the US was never a part of it officially. The small arms treaty had to do with trading/selling firearms in to conflict areas, we all know how well that has gone the last 10 years despite the large number of countries that signed on. This treaty has nothing to do with us being able to import Russian or Chiese AKs or anything else commercially in that regard.

Officially pulling us out of it is mostly a symbolic move (much like Obama's entering it into it without congressional approval). That said, the treaty was sort of a sword of Damocles hanging over our head that a future Democrat congress/senate could have ratified and then a future democrat run SCOTUS would declare that even though it basically invalidates our Second Amendment its still constitutional because the 2A was written by old dead white guys or something.

So for you pro 2A anti-Trumpers THIS is why Trump was a better choice than Hillary because she'd likely have rigged the SCOTUS and probably found a way to rig the 18 elections taking the house and senate.

America came a hair's breadth from dying in 2016. We're still not out of the woods, but my God can you imagine what will happen if the D's ever get control again.

It also contained language requiring signatory nations to institute gun registration.
