Sad to see you go but congrats. And I completely understand.

I've never been to Austin but want to visit some day. I know it's mostly Lefists but TX keeps it grounded. If TX isn't careful, it may go the way of CO someday.

    Congratulations.

Austin won?t be a huge leap since it?s probably more like Colorado than any place in Texas.

Congrats on the new chapter of your life. I'm a native Texan and still have family there. The hill-country area around Austin is probably some of the prettiest in the state.

But there's no way in hell I'd go back. Mostly because it's so damn hot and humid. Except for the BBQ. If I could go once a week for good, real BBQ, I'd be happy.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I wasn't ready for the humidity when I was there last weekend. But it was at least made a bit worse by an incoming storm (and what a storm it was).

Get used to those storms. Thunder so loud it shakes the entire house. I think the thinner air up here minimizes some of the impact.

Great BBQ. It is the 'Boulder' of TX. Plenty of Tex-Mex rather than the New-Mex we tend to get here. Great BBQ. The hill country is some of the most interesting geography in TX. 6th Street isn't quite the same as it was back in the '80s, but I hear times change. Did I mention they have great BBQ?

If you get a truck, all of the manufacturers have Texas Editions for your 'country cadillac'. The largest number of pickups per capita.

I'm with BG, I'm not a fan of the heat/humidity. At least it isn't Houston.

Just remember to think everything is bigger in Texas, except they constantly forget about Alaska.

And yes Austin is one of if not the most progressive towns in the whole state of Texas. Fun college townish vibe on the weekends, plenty of fun bars. During the week though they have a pretty solid amount of semi-aggressive homeless population that are annoying to deal with. I think the cops push them along for the weekends as you don’t see many around them hanging around

Good luck with that! I figure it will be a good decade or more before the left does to Texas what they did to CO.

Just realize that you will be replacing snow with heat, humidity and bugs (which is the main thing keeping me from moving to Texas).

That said, I really don't blame you. The wife and I are exploring an exit strategy as well (especially since I've been unemployed for most of the last year). We're looking at the Rapid City area though, which still has the snow but a much lower population of snowflakes.

To be fair to Austin, in my 20s I seriously considered moving there (from Wichita, KS) and there are some good things about the area (one thing liberals are good for is good restaurants/bars/coffee shops ... and if you're single, loose women).

I figure in the next year or two there will be a lot of these kinds of threads here
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

RAPID CITY?? forget the snow, the- single digit and below zero cold killed it for us . Those temps are not uncommon, come winter.
