I have a friend in a rural community in FL who is part of the welcoming committee. They make sure all new land owners/residents understand the "rules." The transplants who are "live and let live" types fit in well. They will chase the hand-wringing statists out. They had a developer trying to buy up land to sub-divide and they locked him out too (I can't remember how they did it but I think he got tired and moved on).

Other populated areas that don't get personal are different. When I lived in N.FL they hated "Yankees" and didn't seem to care enough to find out what the word "Yankee" meant. Colorado <> New England/NY/NJ, but it was all the same to them.

But they are swimming in "Yankees" and can't do a thing about. Some of these states have income based on migration (FL has no income tax, but a special investment tax to catch the retirees, and limited homestead exemptions on property).
