Thats silly, its not orange juice & profit margins. Chemical is watered down to a specific ratio to be effective, selective & safe(r).

Many factors including temp, time, saturation, surfactant & subsequent watering all play an important roll in the effectiveness of a herbicide.

Basic rules of the trade: Apply in the early morning on a clear day 3 or more days prior to mowing, do not water for 2 days, do not apply when temps are expected to be above 90 & do apply to all surfaces of the foliage if possible & just to the point of run off. If you've followed all of these general guidelines & your weeds persist or fail to show any signs of curling/attrition there could be another reason...

Offhand, I don't remember if ortho wbg is a triamine base herbicide. If so & because of it prevalence for homeowner use, your Dandies may have built up an immunity to the salts. You'll need to try a different chemical base & follow the above guidelines.

To prevent future germination you may also try a pre emergent such as 'Preen' though you should keep in mind it will retard the growth of all seed, including lawn varieties if you have plans to overseed. Side note: your wbg has a reduced but similar affect on the surrounding soil for a short time after application.

If you have any other questions you're welcome to pm.

They make a "ready to use" version and a concentrate version of Weed B Gone, which are you using? I agree that the "ready to use" version is a bit weak. I buy the concentrate version and just use that without adding the water that you are supposed to add and it wipes stuff out in a few days.

As far as application goes, I spot spray the weeds right after mowing and then I don't water for a day or so afterwards. I usually see wilting by the next morning.

If you don't have licensing & regulators to answer to then yes... the 'like you mean it' approach works too. F* that weed & his whole family.

I was licensed by the state of Minnesota years ago. I'm pretty sure anything that can be bought off the shelf at Home Depot falls well below epa guidelines. I know the commercial stuff we used and that I had to keep a log book on worked better than even the concentrate they sell off the shelf. Either way, I think I have a long way to go before I hit the max allowable application level for my yard.

Tell that to the weeds growing in the cracks in my driveway. Damn things resist pulling as well.

At this point the only thing making my yard green is the weeds

Healthy grass is usually the best solution to weeds in the lawn. I'm busy fighting some sprinkler issues and the grass is getting a bit crispy...so I don't have that.

I hear it's important to check the pH balance of the soil and correct from there. I hear that in Colorado we have the balance that is more difficult to correct to and takes years. Jer probably has some things to say about this.

Yes titrating the soil acid/base is important.
My guess is it is little more basic (alkaline) than other area due to heavier mineral (at least in thornton).

As long as animals dont pee/poo and give water continuously, I dont think it will go higher than 9 and lower than 5.

Edited to add: I hope 9 and 5 gave away the little humor but I am not an agri hogri expert.

ETA2: I am happy with weed b gone, but are there better and less expensive products?
