Default Colorado?s Magazine Ban Is The Latest Gun Control Failure

Cautiously optimistic the magazine ban just might be overturned, but not holding my breath.

?Six years ago, after the Aurora theater massacre, Colorado governor John Hickenlooper signed several pieces of gun control legislation into law. Universal background checks and a ban on magazines over 15 rounds were touted at the time as game changers for public safety in the state, but it hasn?t worked out that way. Violent crime?s actually gone up 25% in Colorado since the bills took effect in 2013.?

Its hardly a failure. Its doing exactly what it was designed to do; vex law abiding gun owners.

I have had to pass up several real good deals on full capacity magazines because they won't ship to CO ... and the UBC law has prevented me from buying several guns I would otherwise have bought off Armslist or here in the classifieds because I'm not going to drive all the way to Denver to sit through (and pay for) a BGC that could hit a technical snafu and I'll have to drive back again a few days later to complete the deal (or just forget it and chalk up the wasted time, gas and transfer fee).

Its also got me looking at work and real estate outside of Colorado so ultimately the gun control laws will probably reduce the voter rolls here by 2 more Republicans thus helping to blue the state further.

Nobody actually believes that the gun control laws where about reducing gun deaths.

Hate to break it to you, but if there was a Vegas gambling pool on this being overturned, I'd bet the house, the farm, the dog, down to my shirt on my back. That it will not be so much as modified.

RMGO brilliantly appealed it to the Colorado Supreme Court. Do yourself a favor, and see whom appointed all the judges in the Colorado Supreme Court.

Optimism... all the water will done run outta that glass son when you do that!

I agree that the mag laws are garbage, but they're only working because you're letting them. When I read this ^^ it tells me (and them) that you don't really want/need those guns anyway.

So you're suggesting that I post about how much I've broken the magazine and BGC laws here in this forum? (which is never if you must know ...yeah, never).

No, I'm just saying if having to complete a background check makes a difference, then it doesn't seem like you really wanted it.

Granted, I drive all over the state all the time so the drive to Denver doesn't mean as much to me as others, but I can see not wanting to spend hours on I-25 just for a couple hundred dollar pistol.

I pass over items that I want all the time because of the drive. Nothing to do with the laws, I just don't like making the haul. You're logic is correct in my case, I don't really want it that bad in most cases.

Its not the BGC itself that's the problem. Its the extra $30 tax (which on something like an AR lower can be basically a 100% tax) and the fact that if I drive all the way up to Denver and the BGC has a hickup of some sort then I'm driving back home empty handed and have to make another trip all the way to Denver and back to pick up the item ... its a tremendous hassle and expense considering I've met many of the fine people on this very forum in various parking lots around the Denver Metro Area and swapped fiat bills for guns many times before the law went into effect.

The point is that the universal BGC law adds yet another layer of expense and hassle and thus reduces the number of good deals worth buying. Which is what its meant to do. Its nothing more than a vexation of the law abiding citizen just for the sake of spite.
