    Default genaric handgun question

i was looking into a private sale with a 20 year old on a handgun - but was told by a couple of ffls that they cant - they cant sell a handgun to someone under 21, and during the transaction it goes into their books and then would show them transferring it to the under 21 person.
I was looking through different laws and didnt find anything prohibiting someone under 21 owning a handgun. I seem to remember in AZ that it was legal for someone under 21 to buy a handgun in a private sale.

Was wondering if anyone had any additional information to add, and second, based on the information ive seen, a private party transfer of a C&R handguns seems ok?

State laws will vary. But with the advent of the UBC in CO, no a handgun may not be lawfully transferred to a person under 21 years of age.

With the understanding of the usual UBC exemptions, such as interfamily transfers. A permanent transfer of a non-C&R handgun to a non-direct relative individual under 21 would be problematic.

Except to an immediate family member, which requires no BGC.

Or a C&R or antique handgun, which is similarly exempted from the universal background check.
