Default EMDR / Eye Movement Densitization and Reprocessing Therapy

Has anyone had experience with EMDR therapy? It?s been used by the military and some Wounded Warrior type of organizations for the treatment of PTSD and trauma, and I?ll be starting it within the next month or so. Just curious to see if anyone here has had experience with it and how it turned out. Seems to be a life changer for many.

I've never tried it or anything, but Slate Star Codex mentions it once in awhile and seems to think it's pretty good.

If there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to buy a gun, there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to vote.

For legal reasons, that's a joke.

Reading up on it. Sounds interesting. One article, it talked in a singular event sense (e.g. discuss the event). For many (me included) it is not necessarily one event, but many incidents that are triggers or the death by a thousand pricks idea. Not sure how that would equate to the treatment sessions as discussed in one article. Good luck with it, hope it works for you.

    Thank you.
That’s part of my problem as well, it would be easier if it were just one major traumatic experience or even half a dozen or less, it’s a bit more and spanning most of my life, but working on it peice by peice is the better option for me. It’s just going to take a long time.

A friend of mine did it and it seemed to help. As with most any therapy, it?s really dependent on you and normally not used by itself.

It can be used for anyone with any kind of trauma or even things like anxiety and it is also one of the few mental therapies that have a better outcome than placebo in trials/studies. There is a lab running trials on MDMA (ecstacy/molly) for treating PTSD as well and it is showing something like an 68% success rate after just a couple sessions.

It's a thing. I remember thinking it sounded like BS when I first learned about it. Turns out the theory kinda makes sense. Compared to meds or some of the other stuff out there I think the juice is worth the squeeze.
