Default Military History Book Recommendation: The Outpost by Jake Tapper

Just finished this amazing book. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I found the book by happenstance - at a thrift store, for $3.00. Looked interesting enough so I got it.

If you want a gritty and unsentimental look at the war in Afghanistan, both the good and the bad, you should read it.

There are parts that it's tough to get through. And others that read like a horror movie - you know, the kind where you know something horrible is about to happen, and it does.

But you will also be impressed by the valor and courage of the American soldier against incredible odds.

I feel a little embarrassed that I didn't know more about this battle, the battle of COP Keating on 3 October 2009. In a 12 hour pitched battle, an estimated 300+ Taliban and HIG militants attacked an isolated and undermanned outpost that had about 60 US soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson. 8 US soldiers were killed, over 25 wounded.

Anyway, if you read recent military history or have an interest in the current conflicts, it's a very good read.

If you love your freedom, thank a veteran. If you love to party, thank the Beastie Boys. They fought for that right.

Ive seen some mini documentaries on COP Keating, I imagine the book would be even better. Thanks for the recommendation.
