    Default Test my software?

As many of you know I've been selling Shot Works Pro for probably 10 years now, and many of you have bought it, many thanks!

So I just programmed up a major upgrade to use the current version of .Net and changed a few other things, and I'm wondering if anyone is willing to give it a test over the next couple weeks before I release it? The important thing is, you can go back and forth with the current version and this new version without any data issues.

It looks good to me in my testing, but I've had one guy report an issue I can't recreate where it won't start correctly, I think it is just something weird with his computer but can't be sure.

If you want to try it out, here's the full install link (puts the program in "C:\Program Files" type install) http://shotworkspro.com/download/beta/SWPInstall.exe
And here's the zip file version, if you want to use it on a memory stick, drop box folder, etc.: https://shotworkspro.com/download/beta/ShotWorksPro.zip

I do appreciate anyone willing to give it a try.

    Thanks!

What's the software supposed to do?

If there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to buy a gun, there's nothing wrong with having to show an ID to vote.

For legal reasons, that's a joke.

It's for your firearms/ammo/accessories inventory. Keep it all there for tracking, insurance, police reports, whatever. It's highly encrypted for your protection, allows you to attach pics/manuals/receipts/whatevers to each item. It also doesn't force anything. If you want to put "Traded for a case of ammo and 10lbs of bbq pork" in the purchase price field, go for it.

The main page is https://shotworkspro.com and all the details are there. The new beta version looks exactly like the current one, just some under the hood stuff. Mostly I just wanted some current users to try it and say "Yeah it works no issues" but anyone wanting to try it new, please do!

Well it doesn't run under WINE

The installer does though, so there's that.

I am not a paid user, so I don't have a previous install. It may be related, but I get an error attempting to launch the installer.

What antivirus do you have? If it makes sense, the installer isn't "signed" since a signing certificate costs more than I make in a year selling it. Some antivirus won't allow unsigned programs to run.

    So I installed it, but...

I downloaded the zip file and then I tried the direct install link. The direct install was stopped by Windows Defender "SmartScreen" and only gave me the option to "Don't Run". Next, I unzipped the .zip file and launched the program via the .exe. Windows Defender SmartScreen again popped up but this time I had teh option to install or run (wasn't paying too close to the positive option, just knew that's the one I wanted. The program launched.

Within the program I decided to add a fictitious handgun - "Big Hank", a Colt Anaconda .44 Magnum.

I liked the drop-down options but didn't like having to scroll to the bottom to find "USA" in the Country of Origin field. I really think USA should always be at the top of these types of drop-down fields.

Next, I couldn't find .44 Magnum in the Caliber drop-down so I had to free text enter that data. I finished with that firearm and went to add another fictitious .44 Magnum to see if the program added that caliber to the options since it had been used. It still wasn't there. I get that there are too many calibers to consider to be able to include all in an out-of-box application, but can't the app be updated to allow previously used variables to be added to the list of possible pre-filled options?

Is t here a way for a user to add fields to this, or does this need to be coded?

Now, the bottom line: I like this app but I wonder what platforms it will run on. Can it run on my PC (yes) and on my smartphone? While I haven't used it for some time, I have a MS Access db with most of my firearms in it. It isn't as easy to use as Shot Works Pro, doesn't offer the same level of encryption as Shot Works Pro and certainly doesn't have as nice of an interface. I went to your website to check out the pricing for this product. With just the minimal exposure to this product that I have, I feel that the $29.95/user license is a heck of a bargain and I'll be making the purchase soon.

That's embarrassing. I told avast it was a trusted application, so discounted it as a problem. I disabled it and the installer appeared to run correctly. I had to search the file system to find the install directory though, and got an error attempting to run the executable. The folder contains the executable and a config file.

Edit to add: I did the install and attempted to run the exe as admin.
