Public area near Colorado Springs?

Howdy folks, looking for the nearest public land near Colorado Springs, I've been to the Cheyenne Shooting Complex but I'm looking for a spot to take the wife and daughters for a relaxed picnic/shooting day... I've been told by a neighbor that the closest is by Woodland Park but with no specifics or directions.
Any info apreciated.

Probably that one would be on 67 north between the 88 and 89 mile marker in Douglas County. The forest service has limited the areas in which to shoot so you have to get there early in hopes of securing a spot. I’m not sure I’d want to have a picnic there (considerable amount of trash.errr targets to choose from but that’s your call. Still not a bad place to go!
