Default An unintended consequence of our state UBC - meeting fewer people

Since the laws changed several years ago, I have greatly reduced my firearm buying & selling activity. Between the scheduling hassle and additional cost, it just takes the right sort of deal these days. Unfortunately, that means fewer opportunities for meeting new & interesting people.

While I can not remember every single transaction, there were some conversations that still stand out over the years. I know that I always felt better selling a firearm after a bit of getting-to-know-you chat, the obligatory residency/prohibited questions seem less important than talking for a while.

I suppose that jeep/truck parts somewhat fill the gap, but for whatever reason those transactions seem to end up a bit rushed and impersonal.

Isn't that the main intended consequence?

Waiting for the background check just means more time to chat!

Yeah I do miss meeting people in parking lots and chatting about things.

Guess you could start buying ammo off the trading post

I've made effort to meet folks since I joined & started shooting competitively & very few interactions have involved a purchase.

Just saying that doesnt need to be the catalyst. ;-)

It sure is an inconvenience, and as far as a deterrent to crime it is ineffective and a colossal waste of resources, both individual and governmental. The consequences of universal background checks are not unintended by the proponents. It is not reduced crime but the restriction and ratcheting down of firearms use and ownership they seek.

For me though, the inconvenience and cost of UBC has not and will not deter me from buying what I want. And as Irving said, you meet good people along the way, and you build a network.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.
