Default 6.8 SPC - Barrel Length and Twist

Thinking of getting a 6.8 SPC. Anyone have any good insights?
What is the optimal performance between barrel twist rate, bullet weight, and barrel length?

What are you using it for? The longer barrels tend to not give it that much more velocity, so I would go 16-18" if you are using for hunting or planning to be mobile with it.

I haven't played around with mine too much, sticking with bullets around 115 gr

Intend to hunt with it. Thinking of using a SBR lower to keep the weight down.

Note that you cannot hunt with SBRs in CO, you can put it on a pistol lower though.

I haven't used it in anything shorter than 16" myself.

16" is the shortest barrel you can go in CO for hunting. I checked the regs the other day thinking of building a short AR10.
Lots of barrel vendors out there but one barrel option to look into is ARPerformance. I have a couple with one in 6.8 and off a bench with a 2 stage trigger both will shoot MOA and under with good ammo and the barrels are a good price. I shoot factory 120gr Hornady 6.8 for hunting and mine is 18". I built it for my son, he wanted to hunt with an AR and he's taken 2 deer and an antelope with it so far.
I'd like to try the Barnes bullets but havent tried them out yet, pretty happy with the accuracy of the Hornady.

I've got a 16 inch barrel with 1/11 twist. It was made by Stag Arms. If I do my part it will shoot MOA. I think I've had it about ten years now.

If I were to do it again, I'd go with a heavy barrel and a mid length gas system. Make sure it has an M-4 barrel extension. Maybe 18 inches. I don't think those specs existed when I built it.
