Default FYI: testing a 10 round PMAG and 5 rnd extension

Just an FYI in case someone was thinking this as well.

I hate the look of 20 or 30 round mags with blocks for only 15 rounds, deceiving in knowing what it really holds and I hate pretending.

I couldn't find a good review of anyone taking a 10 rnd P-mag an adding on a 5 round extension. There is no MAGPUL quality 15 round mags that look like 15 rounders. I am surprised someone hasn't thought of this and marketed to CO or other restricted states. If this would actually work that is.

So I experimented on the cheap, bought a 10 round pmag for $10 and a strike industries 5 round extension (they advertise this increase for typical 30 rnd mags so I figured it would work) for $10. I chuckled thinking the online seller who marked restricted states on the 5 round extension would deny the sale, but I bought the two together so I am thinking they knew I meant the two was going together in first place for the CO legal 15 rnd mag limit and let it go through.

Looks better than the blocked larger mags, and not so silly as the 10 rnd mag in the magwell, but the biggest kicker?

I can only get 14 rounds in the mag. Not sure if other extensions will work, but I am not wasting more $$ to try at this point. I was thinking it has something to do with the follower, but they look the same as the regular mags, then I read somewhere the 10 rd pmags actually use the 20 round spring, so I deducted that the spring compacted is my limitation.

Now I got a good range mag for sighting / plinking and a "not to grab attention from others" mag in public.

At least I am not out too much money, but for the next guy be warned if you are thinking this may work, it doesn't actually get you to the 15 rnd limit, but 14 rnds is better than 10.

Where are you going shooting where a regular old 30 round magpul mag "grabs attention"?

I might notice someone shooting some of the big 60 round ar mags, or maybe drums, etc. But a regular shaped AR mag... frankly I'd notice more if someone was shooting a smaller magazine because it's much less common.

If I get looks or attention at a range then I am going to the wrong range.

Summer time I go camping and off-roading, typically in the boonies away from the developed campgrounds and crowds.

I always have a truck gun in the back on a rack or when camping I put out. You would figure fellow outdoor-mans or woman would have a similar views but I have had comments from fellow off-roaders; "going to war? glad there is no school close by etc"

Having a smaller mag in the mag-well may not eliminate all because you know scary black rifle and all but hopefully limit the idiots not to forget to mention the non friendly law enforcement who may want to question the date on my mag etc, (this has not happened to me at all but there is always a first)

That size of mag would be great for varmint shooting.

I usually do everything on purpose, he (Jim) always has great come-backs.

I edited my original post with more pics to compare what it looks like in the AR and to a 30 round mag.

    We do have our moments.

BTW: that option works well for bolt actions that use Ar mags.

tbh not sure there's much demand for 14 or 15 round mags like that currently in CO. Also where does a regular AR mag grab attention lol.
