    Default Diet and Eating Right

    To go along with the workout thread, and knowing that losing weight is mostly diet....

    post up your fuel recipes!!

    im a lean meat and vegetables kinda guy, with a daily multi vitamin.
    Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.

    I'm not a Vegan, but I read a book by a pro triathlete who is. Really interesting. I've incorporated a few meals and post-workout drinks.

    Before switching, I could do a particular very heavy workout twice a week at best. I had many months of history with it, so I knew exactly what I could do. Just be switching what I ate or drank after the workout I found I could workout at least twice as often, many time even more.

    It was the first time I've ever seen concrete empirical evidence that the nutrition stuff works. The book is called Thrive, by Brenen Brazier.

    Our favorite recipe around here is a post workout drink.

    In the blender:
    Juice of 1 lime or lemon
    4 large or 8 small dates
    1Tbsp of hemp protein
    2 Tbsp Agave nectar
    1tsp oil (the omega rich oils mixes)
    1 tsp Dulse (a ground up sea vegetable)

    Fill blender with ice to the 2 1/2 cup line, then do the same with water.

    It's excellent and seems to work wonders. All the goofy sounding stuff is available at a health food store.

    I'm working towards going full paleo. I eat a ton of meat and vegetables and don't really care where I end up from a fat and protein standpoint as long as carbs are kept to an absolute minimum. I've been working towards cutting out additives, preservatives, etc.

    I'm beginning to see the benefits of a paleo-like diet. It's really weird about how many preservatives are in foods. I haven't found a decent whole-foods-like place here in my area, but then again I haven't really looked too intently yet. Agree with all about the carbs.

    I eat less and I've lost about 5 lbs so far.

    I wasn't prepared for the change that comes with a drastic diet change, though. I've always had a gut made of iron tubing, but this switch tore me up pretty bad.
    Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.

    I know a couple people who swear by the paleo diet, I wish I could get into it, but man I loves me some carbs. I also know that garbage in garbage out applies to working out and diet.

    Anyways- been doing a lot of chicken, brown rice and vegetables. I wish I have a personal chief to come over and cook.

    No carbs here (well, very very very few), working amazingly well.

    favorite recipe as a side is just like baked potato's modified from: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/just_li..._potatoes.html

    2--16 ounce package frozen cauliflower
    8 ounce cream cheese, softened
    8 ounce cheddar cheese, shredded
    4 green onions, chopped (or you can use 1 small yellow onion and cook it in the bacon grease, your choice)
    1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1/2 pound of bacon, chopped and fried until crisp
    Paprika


    Cook the cauliflower until soft, about 8-10 minutes; drain very well and break up the florets a bit with a spoon. It's also very good if you leave the cauliflower a little chunky. Put in a greased 9 x 13" baking pan . Mix in the cream cheese, cheddar, green onion, salt, pepper and bacon. Dust the top with paprika. Bake at 350ยบ for 20-40 minutes, until browned and bubbly.

    Makes a ton, reheats from fridge really well. even works with breakfast.

    I'll have to give that a shot Brian. I'm starting to get burnt out on grilled chicken and salad or paleo tacos.

    I'm completely turning into that asshole at the grocery store that has to check the ingredients and nutritional info on everything I pick up.

    i am sure that King Soopers hates me, I'm the guy who turns every single can around in the section trying to find the one with lowest carbs. Although now the diet is pretty much the same so I know what to buy and what not to buy. It's amazing how many carbs are in things you would never think about.

    another favorite for those colder days.

    Lo-carb Broccoli Cheese Soup

    Ingredients:
    3-4 cups broccoli -- cooked and chopped, or frozen (cook it first!)
    4 ounces cream cheese
    3/4 cup heavy cream
    3/4 cup water
    2 packages (cubes) chicken bouillon
    pepper -- to taste
    8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded


    How to Prepare:

    Combine Broccoli, cream cheese, heavy cream & 1/4 cup water in food processor. Blend until smooth.

    Transfer mixture to pot add bouillon, pepper and rest of water (I added a little more water).

    Simmer over low to medium heat. Add cheddar & stir until melted. Serve, makes 4 good sized and very filling servings.

    This was my breakfast:
    1/3rd cup almond meal, 1 tablespoon half and half, 2 tablespoons water, a *big* pat of irish butter, and an egg get mixed and sentenced to the microwave for about 45 seconds. Take it out, add a handful of blueberries and 4-5 teaspoon size chunks of cream cheese, stir lightly, and put back in for another 30-45 seconds.

    Oh its a perfect hot breakfast cereal for low carb!

    I've found my favorite late night snack. About a table spoon of hot sauce and a Nalgene of water.

    I've really been trying not to eat after 6 and this helps quell any urge I have to eat before I go to bed.
