    Thanks everyone!

    Papa is VERY proud!

Whelp, I had a “funny” feeling about the buck he took not being legal so we called the game warden and that funny feeling was correct. A legal buck has to have a min 5”, this however did not fit the criteria. I got the ticket, $140, plus 5 points vs my game record. So the warden was totally cool since we called it in. He gives me the ticket and 5 point reduction BUT since we called it in, he re-issues my son’s buck tag. Fuckin A cotton!!

Ouch! Yeah sounds similar to the elk antler restrictions that say one side must have at least 4 points.. unless a brow tine is over 5 inches or something like that. Hard to judge a 5 inch brow tine. Good for you for self reporting, game wardens are usually pretty easy on people that do, it can be an honest mistake.

I wasn't aware of the "5" rule" on mule deer bucks. Good to know. And congrats to your son for getting it done, and to you as well on a nice buck.

BUT, what I never have understood is why the game wardens write a ticket for wrong doing, confiscate the animal, and then re-issue another tag. This isn't the first time I've heard of this being done. BUT, why not let the hunter keep the first animal along with a ticket. Just doesn't make sense in my mind.
Laws aren't "preventable" measures. IOW, more gun laws won't stop mass shootings.
