Default Any Other SOCOM Shooters Here?

I'm presently obsessed with the 458 SOCOM. I've had the upper since an arfcom group purchase from Teppo Jutsu back in 2007, but have really only been able to really shoot it since I got set back up for reloading a couple of years ago. There's such a large variety of bullets and powders available for it that load development takes up a lot of my shooting time.

Anyway, I'm currently saving up for a 10.5" Tromix upper and will SBR it and have a Hybrid 46 in jail as well. I hope to get it out hunting for bison after I finish my BSME. Naturally, I'm considering a 375 SOCOM down the road too.

If you run it for 3 gun take a video, of the march and you shoulder after the match.

    Where you doing your BSME?

I had a chance to use my Hybrid on the .458 Socom for the first time a week ago with some
    500gr and 300gr a friend had loaded.

The 500gr were on the Labradar at bit over 1000fps from a 16" barrel.

It's still pretty loud with the Hybrid, probably not hearing safe.

Yeah, I've read that the 458 doesn't suppress especially well since it is fairly low pressure w/ a large bore. I've heard good things about it sounding good with Trail Boss, so will see if I can't get that to work whenever I get the SBR built. May need an XL gas port w/ an adjustable gas block too.

The Bowers is supposed to be the best for suppressing large bore AR rounds, but it's a beast of a can at 11.25" and 23.2 oz.

It can be never ending with this cartridge. If you want 45-70 type performance though, you may want to give CFE BLK a try. Got Hornady 350's up to 1875fps with it and the cases didn't show any pressure signs. My load data thus far (As usual, use at own risk):

I'm not a reloader and never plan to be. How is ammo availability?

It has gotten better since the last Ammo crises. It is north of $2.50 a round for factory 250 - 300 gr. Soft pioint. Just do some searches.

Heck I haven’t shot mine in over 2 years.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

Unless you want to hunt with the round, I wouldn't bother looking at the 458. Its expensive to buy factory ammo, even reloading the bullet alone is about the same cost as a factory 556 round. If you are going to shoot it in any large quantity you really need to load your own.

Plenty of factory ammo out there... SBR, Steinel, Black Butterfly, Buffalo Bore, etc... Ammoseek has 233 items for 458 Socom ammo. Midway also sells and stocks.
