Default The Gun Room on Carr St.

Well I was walking through the store with my 3 year old. I was just finishing up looking at the cool and overpriced stuff and was ready to leave. When my boy passed by a muzzle loader. It fell. I didn't see him touching it but he could have. I don't know for sure.
Well it fell of a gun rack on the floor. It could haven't been that far. But when I came to pick the gun up it had a broken stock. The buttplate was taped up and the guy ran over to see what happened. The gun was marked for $3,500 and since I wanted to make it right he insisted that I pay $1,250 since he got a deal on it. He was the owner and not a very nice guy. But I ended up paying for it with a CC. Its broke and he said I should fix it and resell it. Or claim it on my home owners insurance.
My question is. Don't stores carry insurance against accidents? While I understand that it was my son that got blamed. He was unrelenting in blaming all of us. Just the kind of understanding I have come to expect from this place. The owner is not nice. Last year he called me a goof and not a real gun owner. Well I got a Ruger Red hawk for $550 so I didn't care I am the customer and my money spends at any store. I shouldn't have gone back. But they are close to my house and got good stuff sometimes usually because its overpriced so it doesn't move. But sometimes they have good stuff that reasonably priced, because the owner doesn't care about it. Like a Russian SKS with box for $300. So its worth it sometimes.
What would you do? Since the gun is broke can my CC do anything? Its a John Moyer 39 cal. Muzzle loader with a bunch of brass decorations on it.

Personally I think you folded too easily, I would have needed to see some solid proof that my kid knocked it over before dishing out that kind of coin, for all I know an employee didn't place it on the rack properly, and it fell just as you guys happened to be walking by, show me the camera footage....

For starters I?d put that store on my favorite list of places I?ll never go again.

Then I?d probably ask Santa to give the owner a good case of asshole cancer for Christmas.

Finally, I?d make sure going forward that if I bring a three year old to some place with expensive stuff I keep a really close eye on him.

As far as advice on the broken antique I?ve got nothing.

You can research stock repair and probably do it your self. I would never gonna back to that store again. Let alone use his smith for anything

Like Hurley said, I'd be asking for the camera footage. Being a gun store and having such high dollar items, one would think there's video surveillance covering the entire store.

As for the "crack"....the owner must have been smoking crack if that kind of damage happened from a fall.

I agree that surveillance video should have been viewed. I?ve been in that store several times and share your opinion of the owner. I have bought a couple guns there, all old military rifles that were displayed on those floors racks. I am shocked that a gun priced at $3500 would be in the floor racks with the rest of chopped up junk (that I like haha). You mentioned there was already tape on the buttstock? I bet that stock was already broken and he was just waiting for some poor customer to knock it over. Sounds like a total con job... he probably paid too much for it and was trying to make up some money. If you ask to see the camera footage and he refuses, you will know with 100% certainty that he ripped you off.
