Because the media traction for eight people non-fatally wounded by gunfire is an order of magnitude higher than eight random people non-fatally stabbed. Why did he have a gun? How did he get a gun? Should other people be able to have the same gun? How will this influence efforts for gun safety? All questions not asked if it's a knife, especially a "normal" non-military or non-hunting knife.
