Default Caldera Fired From Denver Post

    https://i2i.org/heres-the-column-tha...e-denver-post/

    Highlights-

"The reason for my firing is over a difference in style. Not to put words in her mouth but Megan found my writing too insensitive. And yes, it is."

"If conservatives and libertarians are granted a voice in the mainstream media, they must use the language of their ideological opponents. That is, they are not allowed to have their own voice."

"But to force us to use inaccurate pronouns... violates our right of speech."

I disagree with the last one because his being fired isn't technically a violation of his rights since the Post is a private company, but I understand his meaning.

He has plenty of other outlets and I read many of them. I think the loss is the Denver Post's.

Heard Rush Limbaugh discussing this yesterday.

The Denver Post ceased being relevant years ago.

I haven't read it in a couple years. Last time I got one it was reprints from AP, ads, ads and more ads. Very little local news.

Westword does much better covering local stuff.

    Online there are these-

A mix of libertarian to mid to far left. I read everything and make my own decisions.

    But what do I know, I'm not a pundit, I'm a cook.

    Oh yeah?

Well, just try lining your birdcage with an iPad.

It really doesn't work very well.

    Tangentially related:

THAT is who keeps throwing their 'free' TRASH on my lawn every morning despite my repeated requests for them to stop. Even went so far as to return an arm full of papers to the delivery person (for the 3rd time) @ 0420 one morning with the sincere promise that if I had to speak with them again, the papers would be on fire when I put them back in his car.

Viola. Newspapers stopped being delivered the next day & for over two years. Now it appears they have a new driver who has yet to make my introduction.

In the interim I've put it all in a box & will give it to my vet as they have use lining small kennels.

Suck a soggy one up in a snowblower after repeated warnings to not deliver trash to your property and you'll really have cause to smoke them.
    My Feedback
Credit TFOGGER : Liberals only want things to be "fair and just" if it benefits them.
Credit Zundfolge: The left only supports two "rights"; Buggery and Infanticide.
Credit roberth: List of things Government does best; 1. Steal your money 2. Steal your time 3. Waste the money they stole from you. 4. Waste your time making you ask permission for things you have a natural right to own. "Anyone that thinks the communists won't turn off your power for being on COAR15 is a fucking moron."

Guy from the Denver Post stopped by my house a week or so ago. He said subscriptions were way down and he was out offering something like 70 weeks free, just to sign people up. I disappointed him.

My HOA cited me for not picking up the free unsolicited paper left everyday.

I said they should ban the paper from the community for dumping litter.

I won, and the delivery person had to pick up papers and was told to only deliver to customers. I havent seen that litter in an orange bag for a while.

So waay back when, like 40+ years ago when I was in high school, I took a journalism class and we had some newspaper people come to speak to us. They said something interesting that has stuck with me.

Advertising rates in periodicals (newspapers but also magazines) are based on "circulation" which is their term for "Paid" sales - the thought being that people who PAY for a newspaper or magazine are more likely to actually buy the products or services advertised therein.

People who aren't PAYING buyers aren't counted for purposes of ad revenue even though certainly not everybody who reads a paper also buys one. Ditto for magazines.

The person who gave us our class pointed out that the money newspapers get from sales of the paper itself doesn't cover the actual cost of making the newspaper - that money comes all from advertising. In fact, he said they could actually give the paper away for free because the money they make 'selling' it doesn't really pay for much of anything.

BUT, if the GIVE papers away for free, they can't count those numbers in their "circulation" because they weren't paid for. And THAT, in turn, would make advertising rates go down because with smaller circulation, ad rates go down.

So, the uptake from all this is that newspapers and magazines have a huge financial incentive to inflate their "circulation" numbers any way they can. They can charge you $1 for a year's subscription and then they get to count you as a "paying customer" for circulation purposes. Magazines do the same thing, which explains why sometimes you "cancel" a magazine and stop paying for it - but they still keep sending it to you, sometimes for YEARS. They don't actually care about the $25 you "pay" for the magazine, they're happy to let you keep that $25 and send you the magazine for nothing (by conveniently not processing your "cancellation") just so they can count you as a "paid subscriber" when they show their "circulation" rates to ad customers.

It's a lesson that's always stuck with me and explains why there are so many people trying to get you to subscribe to newspapers or magazines at rates that are, for them, a financial loss. Because they don't want your money, they just want to be able to count you as a paid subscriber.
