No doubt. Does anybody remember the Gart Brothers store on Larimer Street? It was their main store long before they built the "Sports Castle" on Broadway. Before the area became known a LoDo, Garts was on the corner down the block from the old Goodwill store. It was in an ancient 1800's building, 2 or 3 stories plus a big basement. The gun department was down a long wide wooden stairway into the basement and the gunsmith shop was in a room that looked like an old wooden jail. They catered to competitive target shooters and carried all the specialty gear you'd never find in a gun store nowdays.
Dave Cooks was a latter day upstart that competed with Garts but they never handled anything for competitive shooters.
And the Cooks and Garts were also connected through marriage. Back in the late 40s they sent “tractor parts” to the new state of Israel. Used their connections to buy up oodles of surplus arms. Apologies for the drift.
Sorry- I still referred to Sports Authority as Gart's due to force of habit. I spent a lot of time as a kid drooling over the gun counter of Gart's long before they became the land of PC culture friendly soccer cones and yoga mats.
Speaking of Dave Cook, I remember their being a literal barrel of Lee-Enfields at the Boulder store across from McGuckins in the mid-80's. I was probably 11 or 12 at the time.
