I won't go into it further, but there are investigations into those who fail the background check and lie on the 4473. Instacheck forwards the most serious of violations for review. I personally have done about a dozen investigations, mostly felons attempting to purchase, but one illegal alien attempting to purchase as well. It lies at the feet of the DA and whether or not they will prosecute, and if they do, do they keep it at the felony level or plea bargain down to a misdemeanor.

I get denied several times a year. At the shop that knows me really well, they sometimes negligently put a space in my last name. There's supposed to be one and I'm the only person in the family without it. I always get approved once it's corrected of course.

My Drivers License and Birth Certificate don't have a space in my last name. My Social Security information does. It was a real PITA when I was still working DOD, it felt like I was filling out AKA forms every couple of months.

Anyway. I hope I'm not being investigated. It would be a tremendous waste of resources.
