    Default Magpul deformation problem?

Not surprisingly, I have been able to find some time in the house to reorganize some of my shooting stuff. I had one 30 rd normal Magpul magazine that had been stored at full capacity without the dust cover for several years. I found the misplaced dust cover this morning and tried to snap it on. Nope- The hook will not engage.

What's the deal? I thought these things were good to go for long-term storage regardless of the dust cover taking the load off the lip area.

    Thoughts?

Yes. To be fair, I will check both the mag and the dust cover on different units to see if I can isolate the problem child.

Well, the dust cover seems to be the issue...

It says "336-9917" with an "8" and an "05", which I would assume to be Aug 2005 manufacture.

Are there generational fitment issues? The mags it doesn't fit are 2008 and 2012 production.

Good find! Might be a good question for Magpul customer service.

Well i finally hit the range last aug for some serious trigger time. 1 year after relocating, with mp's that i had loaded up say in mid 18. Might as well burn up old inventory, not one of the 5 run functioned, w/out FTF's . The usgi ones, cycled fine.

I thought they had different gen dust covers. Is it possible you found the wrong gen?

That?s good to know. I?ve never had a single issue with the D&H mags I?ve been using since I bought my first AR-15. I did buy some Magpuls since that?s what all the cool kids were doing.

Did you reload them and test function again to see if they are totally shot?

I'm not a fan of magpul/plastic mags because when they're stacked in a pouch, they lego together when you attempt a fast withdrawl. I think they're fine for competition use, and yeah I wouldn't leave them loaded. If I had no choice but to leave a plastic mag loaded, I'd spare a round or 2.
